Living Abroad

Students in the Rotary Youth Exchange Program have the following obligations:

  • Students accept the rules of the host Rotary Club and the host parents.

  • Students enroll at the school designated by their  host club, attend classes regularly and participate  in school activities.

  • Students are ambassadors and behave in a manner which will reflect credit on their family, community, country and Rotary.

Is it Safe?

This is an extremely important question.

The District 5080 Youth Exchange Committee maintains close communications with their counterparts who live in the same Rotary district as the students. There is no better source for direct, feet-on-the-ground information about the political, economic, or environmental situation in the host country.  The host District Youth Exchange Committee has policies and procedures to create the safest possible environment for students.

What Does it Cost?

The Long Term Exchange Program has a flat fee ($6,000 USD for the 2014-2015 exchange year).  The flat fee covers program costs, but not personal expenses.

What is the Process?

The Long Term Exchange application process begins 10-12 months before you leave for your host country, see an Overview of District 5080 Youth Exchange Process.
